Entertaining New Platforms–Is There a Business Use?

Social media is always evolving. And by evolving, I mean someone out there is thinking, “How cool would this be?”

I have recently stumbled on to Vine. I heard about vine a couple of months ago in a David Meerman Scott blog post. Initially, I did not think much about it other than, “Six seconds is not much time to make a video.”

Over the weekend, I set up two vine accounts using my Twitter handles–one for Forza, and one for my personal. Now that was easy. I started by viewing the Editor’s Picks. Fairly entertaining. Now its time to connect. I went to the search tab and found that several people who I follow on Twitter already have Vine accounts as well–most have not posted yet. What you will see is fairly entertaining, which leads me to believe, there are a great deal of people with tons of free time on their hands. But really that is not true. Again, six seconds is not that long. It turns out that Vine is to YouTube as Twitter is to your blog. It really does not take long at all to video something and then post it. Now the question is, what can you do or say in six seconds.

A graphic designer can showcase their work from concept to completion. A realtor can show off a home that they are having an open house at. A long-term care facility can give a tour of their facility. A building contractor can show progress on a home they are building. A home remodeling business can show before and afters of their work. A liquor store can offer a tantalizing pour. A car dealer can give you a 360 degree look at a new vehicle on their lot. A fitness center can post how to videos.

The options are endless, and the small chunks of info are long enough to stick in your mind, but short enough to keep you interested. The best thing about the platform as I see it right now, is that it is so new you can establish yourself as the expert in your field.

While you are there, don’t forget to take a moment to be entertained. There are some very creative individuals out there. I can almost guarantee someone’s post will make you laugh. As for me, I have not posted anything yet, but I cannot wait to dive into this new platform, both personally and professionally. You can find my Vine profiles by searching Forza Promo and cdhawley. I hope you enjoy the Vine experience.
